A Phuket "FantaSea"

On our first full day in Phuket we went on a city tour. Basically we drove around and took in some of the sights of Phuket. We went to the 3 main beaches (including the one in Patong where we are staying,) a place called the "Viewpoint" because from the top you can see all three of the beaches and the big Buddha, to a market, and to a monkey show. The beaches are really nice here....mainly because there is a difference between the color of the sand and the water, unlike in Texas. The markets here are also quite different from back home due to the fact that our markets don't have baby elephants hanging around them. It was the first time we had ever been up close and personal with a baby elephant. Our animal adventures continued when we went to a local monkey show. The show consisted of monkeys doing things like push ups, playing basket ball, swimming, and riding a bike. Kayla's favorite part was when "Mr.Georgie" did a pole dance and mine was when he rode a bike. It was amusing to see a monkey do something that Kayla struggles with. Overall it was a good day.

After a long day of sightseeing we headed out to the infamous (well at least to the people of Phuket) "FantaSea" show. We were very intrigued because the posters had images of what looked like a cross between a circus and play. Once we arrived we realized that it was a mix of a circus, play, Disney World, and zoo. There were different areas where you shop, eat, play games, and look at all different kinds of animals. After a few hours everyone was escorted into the theater for the main show. The show was basically the tale of a prince and his magic elephant. We were able to see parts of the Thai history and culture which was very entertaining. There was dancing and singing as well as a magic show. At one point they had close to 20 elephants on the stage dancing and standing on their hind legs. Despite the elephants, acrobatics, and pyrotechnics, the chickens stole the show. Yes that 's right, chickens. In one of the singing numbers the young lovers were strolling around a traditional Thai farm. In the middle of the song a flock of chickens streaked across the stage, running like the butcher was after them. That's it, they just ran out of one end of the stage and ran off the other. The entire audience cracked up. The theater holds something like 3,000 people and it seemed like everyone had a really good time. Kayla and I were really impressed although we couldn't understand everything due to the language barrier. If you are ever in Phuket you should definitely check it out.
